Two local men are behind bars Sunday morning after a Shreveport officer stopped them just moments after they allegedly robbed a west Shreveport Family Dollar Store.
At approximately 7:55 p.m. Saturday, Shreveport police officers responded to a reported robbery at the Family Dollar in the 3700 block of West 70th Street. Upon arrival, they learned that a male suspect reached into the cash register drawer while the clerk had it open and began taking money out of the register. Fearing for her safety, the clerk removed her hand from the till and backed away from the register. The suspect fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and got into a white SUV apparently waiting for him in the parking lot there.
A witness was able to give officers a description of the get-away vehicle and, moments later, a patrol officer spotted the truck near the intersection of Gaywood Street and Louise Street. The officer stopped the vehicle and the passenger, later identified as 22-year-old Andre Ary, fled on foot in an apparent attempt to evade capture. Ary was apprehended a short time later hiding in a shed in the 3000 block of Gaywood Street. The driver of the suspect vehicle, identified as 26 year old Bryant Starks, was taken into custody without incident.
Officers recovered some of the stolen loot on Ary's person and some of it in the vehicle Starks was driving. Detectives were dispatched and Andre Ary, of the 7000 block of Louise Street in Shreveport, was charged with one count each of simple robbery and resisting an officer. Bryant Starks, of the 7000 block of Gregory Street in Shreveport, was charged with one count of being a principal to simple robbery. Both men were booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
