Shreveport Regional Airport customers will again be able to fly non-stop at a low cost to Orlando, FL as the Shreveport Airport Authority continues to expand services at the airport.
On Tuesday, the Shreveport Airport Authority announced that they will bring back flights between Shreveport Regional and Orlando-Sanford International Airport beginning this summer. "This gives customers just another option of service to Orlando with great fares, on big jets, non-stop service," explained Bill Cooksey, Interim Director of Airports. Allegiant Air will offer flights two times a week for fares as low as $49.99 one-way.
This addition comes on the heels of the newly-added Vision Airlines non-stop flights to Destin, FL and direct flights to Orlando, FL. As Las Vegas has become a top destination from Shreveport Regional, Allegiant Air also plans to expand on that service starting this summer carrying up to five flights per week.
These expansions bring more options for Ark-La-Tex residents looking to get away. "We want them to try our airport first," Cooksey said. "Shreveport Regional Airport is the hometown airport for the Ark-La-Tex region. We need people to at least price us and give us a shot."
With the recent additions of low-cost flights to Florida out of Shreveport Regional, the Shreveport Airport Authority say they hope to continue that trend by bringing in more flight options in the future. "We want to keep the momentum going and to continue expanding airline service as well as to move things forward in terms of projects that we're working on at the airport," said Cooksey. Those projects include improving customer satisfaction at the airport and bettering their outreach to the community.
Direct flights to California often come up in conversation as a highly-demanded destination, and seeing those flights in the future could also be a possibility.
Allegiant Air spokesperson, Sabrina LoPiccolo, explained at the morning news conference that the longer haul market like California from Shreveport is not something that they would look at in the short-term, "but definitely something that we will continue to work for." Cooksey said that the Airport Authority is constantly working to improve airline service, fares and adding more destinations.
Allegiant Air's non-stop flights to Orlando-Sanford will begin May 19.
