Armed bandit strikes dollar store

Police detectives are working to identify and apprehend a man who robbed a north Shreveport dollar store last night.

At approximately 8:50 p.m. on August 9, 2011, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a reported armed robbery at the Dollar General in the 3300 block of North Market Street. Upon arrival there, patrolmen contacted a witness who told them a male suspect burst into the store brandishing a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from the clerk at gunpoint. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled the scene of the crime on foot. No one was injured during the robbery.

The suspect is described as a slim black male, approximately five feet six to five feet eight inches tall, wearing a dark gray plaid winter coat and dark pants with a mask covering his face. Investigators are working at this time to recover surveillance video footage from the business.
