Bossier City Fire Chief Sammy Halphen will present a fifth grade honor student from Central Park Elementary School with the Fire Department’s Citizen’s Life Saving Award during the Bossier City Council meeting on Tuesday.

Shacoria Jones will be honored for using what is commonly known as the Heimlich maneuver on a fellow student when he began choking on food during lunch period at the school last month. Shacoria learned the maneuver from her mother and due to her quick response she was able to clear the boy’s airway so that he could breathe again.

Shacoria is a straight “A” honor student and is also Central Park Elementary School’s Student of the Year.
The City Council meeting begins at 3 p.m. at the Bossier City Council Chambers, 620 Benton Road. Chief Halphen will present the award to Shacoria during the Ceremonial Matters portion of the meeting which takes place shortly after the meeting begins.
