Crash closes part of I-220

Thursday, October 21, 2010 - 3:06pm

Shreveport Police patrol officers are working a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 220 westbound on the Cross Lake Bridge, involving an 18 wheeler and a pick-up truck.

Initial reports indicate the pick-up truck struck the 18 wheeler from behind. The big rig was hauling rice and some of that cargo has spilled out onto the roadway. The driver of the pick-up truck was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Officers have closed down the westbound lanes of Interstate 220 and are diverting all westbound traffic onto the Shreveport-Blanchard Highway exit. We are asking motorists to avoid the area if at all possible and to expect delays if they must travel on Interstate 220.

The clean up is expected to last several hours.
