Detectives charge woman with filing false police report

Friday, February 25, 2011 - 6:16pm

Shreveport Police detectives have charged a local woman with filing a false police report after they discovered she fabricated a tale about an attempted home invasion.

Just before 6:00 p.m. back on June 22, 2010, Shreveport patrol officers responded to the report of an attempted home invasion in the 100 block of Bruce Avenue. Upon arrival, officers contacted Lilian A. Distefano who told them that she was at her home when a man broke out a window pane in a door with a hammer and put his hand through the broken window. The victim told officers she armed herself with a kitchen knife and stabbed the suspect in the arm. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. Officers recovered the knife outside of the victim's home. The victim was not injured.

Detectives were dispatched and immediately began their investigation which has been active and ongoing until this afternoon when investigators received an analysis of evidence recovered from the scene of the alleged crime and discovered that the evidence contradicted the victim’s account of the incident. Based on all of the information gathered and forensic evidence recovered, investigators believe Distefano fabricated the entire story. This afternoon detectives issued 31-year-old Lilian Distefano a misdemeanor summons charging her with one count of filing a false police report.
