Elderly woman killed in Plain Dealing house fire

Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen says a single family house fire in Plain Dealing Tuesday afternoon has killed one person.

A bossier deputy was at the Maximum Security Facility, about a mile away,  when he noticed smoke up the road. He traveled north on Old Plain Dealing and was met by both a FedEx and UPS truck who informed him that a female was at home at the fire’s location.

By the time the deputy reached the house in the 3000 block of Old Plain Dealing Road, it was engulfed in flames and smoke. He ran to a window and began to yell for the woman. He then heard someone or something fall. He kicked in the side door to the home and yelled “ma’am, ma’am” several times in attempt to locate the woman, but there was no answer. The flames and smoke became too severe for him to enter the home.

A woman was found dead inside the home. She has been identified as 74-year old Mary Jane Aiken Moore.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
