Fiery Highway 71 crash sends 2 to hospital

Caddo Parish -- Two people have been airlifted to a hospital in Shreveport after a fiery head-on crash on Highway 71 near Felf Road.

Caddo Parish deputies tell KMSS the accident happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. when a car traveling north on 71 sideswiped a southbound dump truck, sending the car into another southbound pickup truck. The impact caused the truck to burst into flames and the car into pieces.

The driver of the pickup truck and car were airlifted to a hospital in Shreveport with life-threatening injuries.

Traffic is expected to be slowed for more than 2 hours between Highway 169 and Felf Road on Highway 71.
