Detectives have charged two men in connection with a fight in downtown Shreveport yesterday that sent one of the participants to a local hospital.

At approximately 3:55 p.m. on June 30, 2011, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a reported assault in the 600 block of Texas Street. Upon arrival there, officers found 58 year old Fair Douglas Banks suffering from wounds to his head. Banks was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives were dispatched and discovered that Banks and another man, identified as 34 year old John Anderson, were apparently involved in some kind of altercation during which Banks allegedly pulled a knife and threatened Anderson. Bystanders intervened at that point and disarmed Banks who subsequently left the scene on foot. As Banks walked through a nearby alleyway, Anderson armed himself with a two by four and struck Banks in the head with the board.

Officers located John Anderson, of the 1600 block of Milam Street in Shreveport, and took him into custody without incident. Anderson was later booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of aggravated battery. Banks, of the 1200 block of Cornwell Avenue in Shreveport, was issued a misdemeanor summons charging him with one count of aggravated assault.
