Firefighters take on 3,500 acre fire
KISATCHIE NATIONAL FOREST - Fire officials say over 3,500 acres are ablaze in the Kisatchie National Forest southwest of Natchitoches.
According to U.S. fire services, the fire has been burning since October 11, when they believe lighting struck, igniting the fire.
Over 259 firefighters are on the scene battling flames, some from as far away as Arizona, Oklahoma and North Carolina.
Fire command personnel tell KMSS they have control of the fire at about 60% contained. They expect to have a containment ring formed by the end of the week.
No structures have been burned and no one has been injured.
