Shreveport Police detectives are investigating a sexual assault that allegedly took place Monday night at Government Plaza in downtown Shreveport.

At about 9:20 Monday night, Shreveport police responded to a call at Sam's Town Casino and Hotel relative to a sexual assault.  Shreveport police spokesman Sgt. Bill Goodin told us that when officers arrived, they contacted the victim, an 18 year old female.  She told officers that she had been sexually-assaulted at 505 Travis Street, which is Government Plaza.

Officers took the woman to the hospital as detectives started their investigation.  Sgt. Goodin told us that crime scene investigators were able to recover some evidence at the alleged crime scene at Government Plaza.  Detectives "are working at this time to determine first and foremost if probable cause exists, and then working to identify any possible suspects."

Police say that the alleged sexual assault took place inside the Government Plaza building after business hours.  Government Plaza houses offices of the Shreveport mayor, city council and the Caddo Parish Administration.  "Detectives are working some leads, but again we can't name a suspect until an arrest warrant has been signed or the suspect's arrested," Sgt. Goodin explained.
