High gas prices change local driving habits

Here in the Ark-La-Tex, many drivers are being forced to make changes in their everyday driving habits just to make it by.

Every last drop of gas counts as prices near $4.00 per gallon in the Ark-La-Tex.  According to ShreveportGasPrices.com, today's local average is $3.65, which is $0.13 below the national average.  Many local drivers think that is too much to pay for gas.

Even drivers pumping the cheapest gas in town for $3.52 per gallon at the Sam's Club on Youree Drive sometimes think about trading in their car keys for a bicycle and helmet.  Valerie Brown wondered, "I think if we all got bicycles and rode them around, would they lower the price of gas?"

While gas prices are causing headaches for drivers across the country, some people here in the Ark-La-Tex are changing their daily and weekly routines just to save a little bit of gas.  Brown told us that she makes the trip from Minden to Shreveport weekly to find cheaper gas.

Other drivers, like Nancy Butler, try to cut down on how much and how far they drive.  "You kind of get all your little eggs in a basket and go everywhere you need to go," said Butler.

And some drivers, like Samuel Glass, may turn to technology to find the best deal on gas.  Glass told us he turns to his smart phone application to locate the gas station with the cheapest gas in town and will make the trip no matter how far away.
