Shreveport Police Sgt. Tim Prunty was killed early this Sunday morning at approximately 3:30 a.m. at the Circle K on the 3300 block of Bet Kouns at Dean Rd.

A lone gunman identified by police as 24 year old Chris Cope, got out of his car, while Sgt. Prunty talked with an employee of the Circle K in the parking lot and shot the officer several times without provocation. Prunty was transported to LSU Medical Center where he died of his wounds.

Responding officers located the car that witness to the shooting identified at Cope’s and attempted to stop the vehicle there but the driver refused to yield.  Pursued by officers, the suspect finally pulled over on Rasberry Lane near Financial Plaza where he was taken into custody without incident.

During police questioning, Cope confessed to shooting officer Prunty, but didn’t give a motivate for the killing, said, Shreveport Police Chief Willie Shaw, during a press conference at police headquarters Sunday morning.
Chief Shaw also outlined during the presser, that Cope had earlier taken a shot at the security entrance building at the Southern Trace community, with the guard inside.
Cope has been charge with 1st degree murder of the law enforcement officer

Prunty had served at the Shreveport policeman since 1991.
