Head shaking disbelief for neighbors

Neighbors were stunned to learn that 24-year old Chris Cope, who had confessed to killing Shreveport police officer Sgt.Tim Prunty could do such a thing.

Not wanting to speak on camera, a neighbor of Cope who has known the young man most of his life, is at a loss to make sense of the tragic event.

There was nothing out of the ordinary about Cope recently, expressed the neighbor, on the quiet residential street on the 9400 block of Lytham Drive in southern Shreveport.

At press a conference Sunday morning at Shreveport police headquarters, |Police Chief Willie Shaw, said detectives didn’t find any past connection between Sgt. Prunty and Cope.

According to police, Sgt. Prunty was in the parking lot of the Circle K at the intersection of Dean Rd. and Bert Kouns at approximately 3:30a.m. Sunday morning, when Cope drove-up and shot the officer several times for an unknown reason.

Cope is being charged with 1st degree murder of a law enforcement officer.

Funeral services for officer Prunty have not be announced as of Sunday evening.
