Officers catch alleged robber after suspicious activity

Officers with the Shreveport Police Department have arrested a local man believed to have robbed a convenience store early Thursday morning.

Just after 10:00 p.m. Thursday night, Detectives were conducting surveillance at a convenience store near Youree Drive and Southfield Road when they observed a male suspect driving a dark Honda Accord pull up to the store and get out of the vehicle. The suspect started sneaking around the building and peeking in the windows of the store. Based on these suspicious actions, the investigators stopped the man and immediately recognized him as the suspect who had robbed the Circle K in the 100 block of East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop in the early Thursday.

The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Johnny Madison, was taken into custody without incident. As their investigation progressed, the detectives discovered stolen merchandise in Madison’s vehicle that had been taken from several retail stores in Shreveport. Johnny Madison, of the 200 block of W. 77th Street in Shreveport was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count each of simple robbery and felony shoplifting.

Chief of Police Willie Shaw lauded the arrest saying, “This is a perfect example of what Robbery Intervention Detail is all about. We want these criminals to know that when they make a decision to victimize someone in our city, they will end up behind bars.”
