Police crack down on I-49 lead foots

Wednesday, January 26, 2011 - 12:30pm

Officers with the Shreveport Police Department’s Traffic Bureau initiated a special operation yesterday to address speeding on Interstate 49.

On Tuesday, January 25, 2011, traffic officers responding to citizen complaints and reports of speeding on Interstate 49 spent about three hours monitoring the highway. Officers issued a total of 59 traffic citations in that time period, 33 of which were for speeding.

This effort was implemented to keep motorists safe and reduce the number of car crashes in our city caused by drivers violating traffic laws. Shreveport Police crash investigators report that most major crashes are caused wholly or in part by at least one of three things: driving while impaired, speeding, and driving while distracted. This ongoing initiative will be aimed at curbing those bad driving behaviors.

If you need to report a speeding complaint or other traffic concern, please call the Shreveport Police Department’s Traffic Bureau at 318-673-7255.
