Scam alert: bogus fundraising for Bossier City Police Department

Thursday, January 5, 2012 - 12:16pm

The Bossier City Police Department is warning residents about a scam involving bogus telephone solicitations that claim to raise money for the Bossier Shop with a Cop program.

Police have received reports recently from the public about getting calls from someone claiming to be raising funds for the program on behalf of the Bossier Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Bossier City Police Union. Neither organization is currently raising funds for that program and police advise anyone who receives such a call not to donate money or relay any personal financial information to the caller.

The Bossier FOP and Bossier Police Local 645 held a legitimate telephone fundraising campaign for their Shop with a Cop program during the weeks leading up to Christmas. As a result officers were able to take 75 underprivileged children shopping for Christmas gifts thanks to the gracious generosity of those who contributed donations.
