Shreveport officers arrest man after firing gun at house

Tuesday, May 24, 2011 - 12:26pm

Authorities have charged a local man in connection with an afternoon shooting in west Shreveport.

At approximately 4:11 p.m. on May 23, 2011, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to Midway Avenue and Hearne Avenue relative to an armed person call. Moments later responding officers learned that a shooting had actually taken place at a home in the 2700 block of Devaughn Street. Upon further investigation, officers discovered that a known male suspect, later identified as 17 year old Veandrew Hudson, approached a group of people sitting on the porch there at the residence on Devaughn Street and fired several shots from a handgun at the home. No one was injured and the suspect fled the scene of the crime on foot. The house and a vehicle parked nearby were damaged by the gunfire.

Upon further investigation, detectives learned Hudson had apparently been involved in an ongoing altercation with another person and this shooting allegedly stemmed from that dispute. Patrol officers located Hudson at his home in the 3000 block of Lindholm Street and took him into custody without incident. He was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of illegal use of a weapon.
