A local man is behind bars this morning accused of robbing a west Shreveport convenience store while his alleged accomplice is on the lam.

At approximately 3:20 a.m. this morning, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to a reported armed robbery at the Circle K in the 2100 block of West Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. Upon their arrival, responding patrolmen were advised by a witness that a male suspect entered the business there armed with a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash and two cartons of cigarettes, the suspect fled the scene of the crime in a vehicle. No one was injured during this robbery.

Moments later Officer Zach Johnson observed a blue Mitsubishi Lancer occupied by two male subjects near the intersection of Wyngate Boulevard and West 70th Street driving at a high rate of speed. Officer Johnson attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to yield, leading authorities on a brief pursuit that ended at Wallace Avenue and Harrison Street where he bailed out of the car and fled on foot. Officers took the passenger into custody without incident but the driver was able to evade capture.

Upon further investigation, officers recovered all of the money taken in the robbery as well as the two cartons of cigarettes. Patrolmen also seized a BB gun they believe was used to commit the crime. Detectives were notified and subsequently charged the suspect, identified as 22 year old Earlie Johnson, with one count of armed robbery. Johnson, of the 4600 block of Bethume Drive in Shreveport, was booked into the Shreveport City Jail. Investigators are working at this hour to identify and apprehend the other suspect. Anyone who has any information regarding this robbery is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at 318-673-6955 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373.
