Police officers have charged a student and teacher in connection with an altercation at a Shreveport middle school this afternoon.
At approximately 3:15 this afternoon, Shreveport Police Cpl. David Bonillas, who was working off-duty security at J. S. Clark MicroSociety Middle School in the 300 block of Hearne Avenue, was notified by school officials of a disturbance. Cpl. Bonillas responded and observed a 14 year old male student acting in a combative, belligerent manner. The student was taken into custody and, as he was being escorted to the office, tried to jerk away from Cpl. Bonillas, striking his head on a door frame. The child suffered a minor laceration and was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department.
Upon further investigation, officers believe that the student and a substitute teacher got into an altercation during which a physical confrontation ensued. Based on all of the information available to the officers, the decision was made to charge the substitute teacher, identified as 43 year old Russell Rollins of the 3500 block of Milam Street in Shreveport, with one count of simple battery. The 14 year old male juvenile was charged with one count of simple battery and one count of disturbing the peace. Both were issued a misdemeanor summonses and released.
