Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen says a Texas man was arrested Saturday evening for driving while intoxicated on Highway 3 just in Benton.
William P. Schmidt, 50, of the 5300 block of Ranch Cedar Rd. in Midlothian, Texas, was driving northbound on Highway 3 when another driver called the Bossier Sheriff’s Department complaining that Schmidt appeared to be driving drunk. A Benton Police Department officer and a Bossier Sheriff’s deputy made contact with Schmidt in a gas station parking lot. The deputy detected an odor of alcoholic beverages on Schmidt’s breath and noted the driver had extremely blood shot eyes.
Schmidt admitted to consuming one beer at a bowling alley in Shreveport earlier in the day. Schmidt consented to the Standard Field Sobriety Test, in which he performed poorly. He also submitted an Intoxilyzer sample in which he blew a .113% blood alcohol concentration (BAC).
Schmidt was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated (1st offense) and transported to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility and booked. His bond is set at $1,000.
