Shreveport police arrest a local man for allegedly stealing several shopping carts from a dollar store and selling them for scrap.
At approximately 8: 55 a.m. on January 24, 2012, employees of the Dollar Tree in the 1200 block of Shreveport-Barksdale Highway spotted a male suspect loading their shopping carts into the bed of a pick-up truck. The store manager confronted the man but the suspect fled the scene of the crime with his stolen loot before officers were dispatched.
Police detectives were assigned the case and, upon further investigation, were able to develop 52 year old Harvey Jenkins as a suspect. Investigators learned Jenkins sold three shopping carts at General Scrap in the 200 block of McNeil Street shortly after the theft was reported. Based on that information as well as video evidence recovered, authorities tracked down Jenkins yesterday at his home in the 1700 block of Abe Street and took him into custody without incident. Jenkins was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of felony theft and one count of unauthorized removal of shopping carts. The buggies, valued at $250 each, were unfortunately destroyed before officers could recover them.
