Tugboat captain finds dead woman floating in Red River

POINTE COUPEE PARISH, LA — A woman was found floating in the Red River yesterday afternoon. Deputies are working to determine who she is and how she died.

Officials say the woman was found by a tugboat captain on Sunday, April 1 at around 5:00 p.m. The Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s office was called to investigate.

Authorities tell KMSS the woman is between 30-50 years of age. An autopsy is currently being performed to determine who she is and how she died. At this point, it is unknown as to how long she was in the river.

Investigators are treating the incident as a crime.

The autopsy report is scheduled to be released today.
