Two homes and a dozen vehicles destroyed in Bowie County fire

An large fire in Bowie County destroys several homes and a dozen vehicles Wednesday.

Wake Village firefighters were first called to the scene shorty before noon. When they arrived on County Road 1303, a trailer home was engulfed in flames. The fire then spread to another trailer, destroying both homes.

Both houses were empty when the fires occurred.

The 11-acre fire ended up burning down two houses and 12 vehicles before the blaze was contained 2 1/2 hours later.

Two firefighters from the Wake Village Fire Department suffered heat illness and had to be taken to a Texarkana hospital. No residents were injured in the fire.

The Texas Forest Service and an array of other departments assisted in putting out the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
