Arson up across the state
LOUISIANA - The State Fire Marshal's office says arson is up a whopping 30% over the last eight months.
Officials believe a bad economy is to blame.
Fire Marshal Butch Browning says more folks are intentionally setting their homes and businesses on fire to keep from having to pay for them.
Browning says even worse, arson is happening during a time when many fire departments are understaffed.
That is why his office plans to make an example out of anyone that attempts to use fire to solve their financial problems.
Browning says insurance companies paid out $80 million dollars just to arsons last year.
