Enrollment at area colleges and universities has increased by 1,700 students since last year, and officials say, it's due in part to the economy.
Records show, enrollment at LSU-Shreveport increased this year by almost 400 students, and Bossier City Community College is showing an almost 16% growth.
Officials at the school say, even though they can't track the numbers directly, they think many people are back at school trying to get back on their feet after being hurt by the economy.

"I'm seeing more of the non-traditional students, the students who possibly have been laid-off or possibly want to do some job skill training," said Karen Musgrove of Bossier Parish Community College.
Musgrove also says these non-traditional students tend to take more classes in the science, business, and computer fields.
