More than 1,200 students in Shreveport will now get the chance to expand their musical education.

"Little Kids Rock" is a national non-profit music organization that provides free instruction and instruments to under funded public schools.

Today, they announced their program will expand to 13 new schools in Shreveport.

The program will also bring 280 new Fender guitars, as well as software and materials to the schools, all free of charge.

Program Director Brian Gellerstein described how the program brings music into the schools.

"We go in and we train the teachers in our really cutting edge rock music program for free, donate all the instruments for free, all the resources cirriculum for free, all the software for free. And what we do is help these teachers run contemporary music based programs in their schools."

Right now the program is in 20 cities and reaches more than 42,000 students.
