SHREVEPORT - Local homeless shelters are gearing up for an influx people with temperatures dropping below freezing.

Several shelters in the area say they have been full since December.

Under normal conditions, workers at some area shelters say they have around 50 people. With colder temperatures, they are expecting at least 25 to 30 more.

Workers at the Hope House Day Shelter in Shreveport say they will be open longer hours to accommodate more visitors.

Shelters are also asking for donations at this time, ranging from blankets and pillows to cold weather gear.
