State questions legality of increased license fees

State lawmakers are questioning the legality of the recent increase in driver's license fees.

Transportation committee members called the $15 hike inappropriate during the tough economic climate.

At least two lawmakers have proposed bills to strip the boost in price.

A new or renewed basic license now costs $36.50 cents for four years, up from $21.50.

State officials say the increase was important to keep the integrity of the license.
