SHREVEPORT, La. — Crossing the Red River will be a lot smoother for residents in Bossier City and Caddo Parishes. The Jimmie Davis Bridge will soon get a much needed make over.
The Jimmie Davis Bridge has connected Bossier and Shreveport residents for several decades. Senator Barrow Peacock of District 37 played a big part in getting funding for the project. Peacock secured 10.5 million dollars in capital outlay funds from the state that will go to refurbish the bridge.
“We are still in the planning stages,” said Susan Stafford, who is a spokesperson for the Department of Transportation. “Part of the project will be to repaint the span of the bridge which can make it look new but the majority of the work will be on the surface for major repairs,” she said.
The project is expected to be completed in two years and is estimated to cost between ten to fifthteen million dollars.
