Man arrested after trying to kill grandmother, setting house on fire

After a short standoff with police, Shreveport Police were able to arrest 44 year old Terrell Iddins of Shreveport.

Police were called to the 3900 block of Melinda Street in Shreveport's Country Club neighborhood after hearing that a man had allegedly shot and killed his 86 year old grandmother.

Officer's quickly arrived at the home, and asked Iddins to come out of the home. He refused, threatening to set the house on fire. Just seconds later, Iddins did just that, using a propane tank that he had inside the home to start a fire in the living room couch.

Concerned for the safety of others, police entered the house and quickly put out the fire. When they did, they found his grandmother, Frances James. She hadn't been shot, but was unconscious. Police believe Iddins hurt her before they arrived. She was taken to the hospital with was a believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities later charged Iddins with one count of attempted second degree murder and one count of aggravated arson. Iddins was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
