Converse mayor speaks out against Aryan Nations claims

An Ark-La-Tex mayor wants the world to know...he and his town have nothing to do with the Aryan Nations. Troy Terrell, mayor of Converse, Louisiana, says he's been receiving numerous phone calls and inquiries about a "world headquarters" for the organization in his town. However, he says that the complex where its self-proclaimed leader, Morris Gulett, lives is ten miles outside of Converse and over the Sabine Parish limits.

"This is all based on the fact he has a P.O. box in Converse," said Mayor Terrell. "Well, anyone can get a post office box, he doesn't live there." The Aryan Nations' website does list the post office box as the contact for those interested in joining the organization. However, Gulett's physical address is just off of WPA Road in DeSoto Parish.

Terrell says Converse is a peaceful town which wants nothing to do with Gulett. "It's a free country so he has a right to say what he wants to say. And we have a right to defend ourselves against this propaganda," he said.  That's something he says he'll continue to do, until everyone's heard the message.
