It's wedding season in the Ark-La-Tex, and that means hundreds couples will be shelling out thousands of dollars for the day of their dreams. Now a recent survey by WedSafe shows that 60 percent more of them are following up on that investment by taking out an insurance policy.
Tanya Harville of Tanya Harville Events has been coordinating weddings in Shreveport-Bossier for four years. She says she's seen more couples asking about insurance here, even if a relatively small number actually purchase it. She does, however, recommend looking into it, especially for the peace of mind. "If you're going to put all the time and all the effort and all the ideas into your big day, then of course, you want to make sure that you can recoup your losses and plan for the day of your dreams," she said.
Most policies allow you to pay a certain amount of money up front, depending on how much your wedding costs. From there, the company will reimburse you for losses, like if the event is rained out or if the venue goes out of business. 10 percent of couples in the United States pay for wedding insurance, compared to more than 50 percent in the United Kingdom.
