Princeton men arrested on battery charges

Wednesday, October 6, 2010 - 5:48pm

Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen says two Princeton men were arrested just before midnight on Tuesday and charged with simple and aggravated battery.

James A. Leath, 43, of the 500 block of Elsie Drive, was charged with two counts of simple battery and Brian Lee Matthews, 23, also of the 500 block of Elsie Drive, was charged with aggravated battery.

The two were taken into custody after Leath became involved in a verbal confrontation with Matthews, who is the boyfriend of Leath’s stepdaughter.

The verbal confrontation turned physical when Leath pushed his stepdaughter out of the way and grabbed Matthews, causing scratches on his chest area.

At that point, Leath fell down some stairs and was attacked by Matthews, who hit Leath with the pointed end of a screwdriver under the chin and collarbone.

Leath was checked by medics and released.

Leath and Matthews were transported to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility and booked. Leath’s bond is set at $1,000, but Matthews’ bond is pending.
