The city of Shreveport announced the first Ark-La-Tex high school football triple-header scheduled to be played at Independence Stadium.
Mayor Cedric Glover announced that the first Battle on the Border will take place September 10, 2011. Six schools from the Ark-La-Tex area will take part in the triple-header. The three games will be: Shiloh Christian Saints vs. Evangel Eagles, Marshall Mavericks vs. Byrd Yellow Jackets, and Calvary Cavaliers vs. West Monroe Rebels.
More events begin to take place at Independence Stadium since the city provided money to make improvements on the stadium.
"The Tourist Bureau's excited about the opportunity to bring in these six high school teams," said Brandy Evans, Vice President of Communications for Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau. "There are some teams from out of the area, which means they will bring their fans along with them."
Not only will the Battle on the Border bring great action on the playing field at Independence Stadium, but the games will also bring people and money to the Shreveport-Bossier area.
Mayor Glover hopes that the triple-header "will result in literally hundreds of families, thousands of fans and a whole lot of players" coming to enjoy Shreveport, Bossier City and Northwest Louisiana.
Evans explained that the city will "have the opportunity to generate some tourism and then also to have a positive economic impact on our region."
With the thousands of people who are expected to come to town for the event, the city of Shreveport hopes that the visitors will recognize the entertainment that the city has to offer. Evans said that the event "gives us the opportunity to really showcase all that we have, and to draw them back for personal and leisure visits."
Mayor Glover hopes that the visitors will have the opportunity to get out in the community and support the area's restaurants, boutiques and local businesses.
