Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Authorities have arrested a local man accused of murder in west Shreveport early Thursday morning.
Gregory Johnson, 49, of Shreveport, was arrested just before 9:00 p.m., after officials found him hiding in a closet in a home in the 1500 block of Hollywood Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident.
Just after 3:30 a.m., Shreveport Police responded to a call of a shooting in the 600 block of Central Street. Upon officer's arrival at the scene, contact was made with members of the Shreveport Fire Department, who confirmed that a male adult victim had been shot at least once in the upper body while on the premises. The man, identified Walter Howard, 58, of Shreveport, was transported to LSUHSC where he later died.
Shreveport Police Violent Crimes detectives arrived on scene immediately launching an investigation. It is believed that Johnson and Howard were engaged in a dispute that led up to the fatal shooting. During the dispute, Johnson reportedly arrived at Howard's residence armed with a handgun and fired numerous rounds through the homes front door after being denied entry.
Following interviews with detectives, Johnson was booked into the Shreveport City Jail. Bond in the matter has been set at $250,000.
