ALEXANDRIA, La. — Forbes magazine has rated Alexandria as one of the 25 best places to retire.

Alexandria is the only Louisiana city to make the list. The national magazine gives several reasons Alexandria was chosen: its warm climate, good air quality, solid economy, good tax situation and its average retail price of a home (about $148,000).

The con against Alexandria is crime, which has been rated highest per capita in the state and country in various reports.

Forbes compiles the list of the top 25 cities for seniors looking to move for retirement based on numerous reported data. The data factors used to create their list include living and housing costs, taxes, opportunities for seniors to stay active through paid or volunteer work, availability of doctors, crime rates, weather and outdoor facilities.
