Argument leads to shooting in Lakeside subdivision

Thursday, February 21, 2013 - 7:32pm

Two men were hospitalized Thursday afternoon following an alleged dispute in Shreveport's Lakeside subdivision.

At around 2:00 p.m., officer were dispatched  to the 3100 block of Poland Avenue on reports of a shooting in the area. When authorities arrived, they found Xavier O'neal, 18, of Shreveport, with a single gunshot wound to his lower body.

Soon after, police learned a second man was found nearby on the 3800 block of Milam Street with a single gunshot wound to his leg. He was identified as Christopher Chevalier, 27, of Shreveport.  Both men were taken to a local hospital and are recovering.

Authorities were able to determine Chevalier and O'neal had been arguing prior to the incident. Chevalier allegedly pulled a gun and fired at least one bullet that hit O'neal. It's unclear if O'neal returned fire or if another person was present and shot Chevalier.

Detectives have charged Chevalier aggravated second degree battery. Upon his release from the hospital, the suspect will be booked into the Shreveport City Jail. Authorities are urging anyone with information about this crime to contact Caddo Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373 or on their website at lockemup.org
