BATON ROUGE, LA — A 14 year old from Denham Springs is the new Miss Louisiana Teen. It's the first time someone in Louisiana so young has the crown. She'll now head to the Bahamas to represent the state in the miss teen USA pageant.
Less than one year ago, Bailey Hidalgo, 14, did not imagine she would be wearing the crown and holding the title of Miss Teen Louisiana USA. She’s a member of the basketball, volleyball and track team at Denham Springs Freshman High School.
Hidalgo says, “Learning how to walk in heels was a new experience, I looked like a football player trying to walk in heels”. The ones who guided her through the year long journey-mentally, and financially were her parents; always there by her side.
Kerry Hidalgo says, “What you would expect it’s pretty expensive”. So as a thank you, she used her father’s career as a police officer, to guide her platform as Miss Louisiana Teen. “I love charity work but the main thing is I am starting to carry on this program called kids for cops”, said Hidalgo. Her father, Kerry Hidalgo says, “She realized there was something she could do about it, educating children and telling them police aren’t the boogie man, that their only propose is to help you and I’m very proud of her for that”.
Along with her charisma, personality and beauty, Bailey is now the youngest teen to take the crown. She says ,”I think its a great opportunity for being my age because not only can I target younger girls that older girls can’t really do I can show them that no matter how old you are or what you do you can always achieve your goal”.
Kerry Hidalgo agrees and he says that, “Shes young enough to say if I don’t make it today I always have tomorrow”.
But on a journey such as this there is always a struggle. “The hardest time was watching what I had to eat because I love food and the food here in Louisiana is hard to give up”. And long with her title, Bailey has a full ride to a college in Minnesota. She will be competing in the Miss Teen USA competition in the Bahamas in a few months.
