BESE visits Caddo Parish schools

The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education works to make sure that students are receiving the best education possible to prepare them for the future. In order to do that, quite a few changes have been made to the educational system.

Tuesday, BESE visited four Caddo Parish School District Schools that have shown dramatic increases on their state tests, which will be a major way both teachers and students are judged on achievement.

Those tests make teachers a little nervous, because those results are, in part, what will determine their salary.

At Cherokee Park Elementary School in Shreveport, "clusters" of teachers work to ensure students are learning everything they need to learn, while still not "teaching to the test". Instead, they focus on not just what is going on, but how things are working.

Even though all of these reforms are hard for both students and teachers, everybody is working toward the same thing; preparing students for the future in the most effective way possible.
