Blood drive honors Caddo Commissioner

Caddo Commission Joyce Bowman knows it's likely none of the blood donated at the blood drive hosted by Blue Cliff College in Shreveport will help her, as she battles lung cancer that has now spread to her brain. Even still, she is still touched that the college chose to hold the blood drive in her honor, knowing the blood will help to save the life of another, saying "In the meantime, I see someone else being helped through the whole process, and that's basically been what it's been about for me this entire time."

60% of people will have a need for donated blood at least once in their lifetime, but only 5% of the population donates their blood. Those statistics are the reason LifeShare Blood Center is seeing their blood levels at a critical low.

But there is an easy fix, donating blood. Every blood donation can save up to three lives. LifeShare holds blood drives daily, and donors can also come any of their locations to donate. If eligible candidates would donate on a regular basis, four to six times a year, blood needs would be met, shortages could be a thing of the past and lives would be saved.
