2 schools in the MLK community will soon be closing.

The Caddo School Board voted to finalize an agreement with the Recovering School District that would close Linear Community Center along with the Newton Smith Sixth Grade Center.

The move comes as part of a plan to help failing schools around the system.

Board Member Carl Pierson says some decisions are necessary in order to ensure the success of each school.

"We want to provide the best educational opportunity for our children, Newton Smith at this point has not done that."

The schools are scheduled to close at the end of the school year.
