Bossier City Animal Control shelter at capacity

Tuesday, July 23, 2013 - 8:40pm

With a somewhat large capacity, it can be hard to believe that the Bossier City Animal Control shelter is at capacity, but since June that has been the case.

For a while, shelter staff seemed to be adopting out lots of animals, but around June that stopped, and at the same time, the number of incoming animals increased.

Now, shelter staff are doing everything they can to get the adoptable animals placed in their forever homes. The hold weekly adoption events at Petsmart, the Bossier City location 3 times a month, and Shreveport once. They also have a Facebook page, where people can see what animals they have on hand.

The shelter is not a no kill shelter, but euthanizing the animals is something they hate to do, so they try all other alternatives before that.

There is something that every pet guardian can do to help with the number of animals being brought in; spay and neuter your pets. Pets can procreate exponentially, overwhelming pet guardians.

For people that are thinking of adding a furry family member, the shelter asks that you think adoption first. It really will save a life, and the BCAC shelter offers all types of dogs and cats, including pure breeds.

Animal lovers that want to help, but already have enough furry family members can help by donating, either their time or supplies, or both. The shelter is always in need of blankets, towels, food, and all sorts of other pet items.
