Bossier Parish Community College Testing Center has recently become one of only a few colleges in Louisiana to offer computer-based licensing exams for the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors, making test-taking for contractors more convenient and allowing them the opportunity to receive results immediately. Previously, these licensing exams have only been offered in Baton Rouge, LA.

North Louisiana contractors say it’s a win for them to have the testing opportunity come to BPCC. “Completing my contractor license exam in BPCC’s Testing Center saved me a trip to Baton Rouge,” said local contractor Tim Pulley, who recently completed his licensing exam. “It saved time, gas and hotel expenses. It’s great that the Contractor Licensing Board is providing this service for north Louisiana.”

Lynn Brown, director of BPCC’s Testing Center, says BPCC is happy to offer the LSLBC testing service to north Louisiana contractors. “The LSLBC testing is a great addition to the wide range of test services already offered by our Testing Center,” says Brown.

In addition to the BPCC Testing Center, test-takers will be able to choose from four other testing locations across the state: the LSLBC office in Baton Rouge; Delgado Community College in New Orleans; LSU Alexandria in Alexandria; and SOWELA Technical Community College in Lake Charles.

As stated in the June 2013 Contractor News Source Bulletin, the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC) has “achieved major improvements in the assessment process by which contractor licenses are obtained in Louisiana. The LSLBC partnered with Learning Sciences Corporation to develop an assessment engine for enhanced testing convenience, assessment administration and data management.”
“Testing is no longer limited to one location and with the outdated use of pencil and paper. Proctors at various locations throughout Louisiana will administer online exams, and test-takers will obtain assessment results immediately rather than waiting for printed results mailed by the LSLBC.”
Louisiana State Licensing Board of Contractors Executive Director Michael McDuff also states in the Bulletin that “the purpose of the LSLBC is to protect the public and the integrity of the construction industry by regulating all contractors who bid on or perform work in Louisiana.”

“Not only does this project expand our reach throughout the contracting community, but it streamlines our operations,” said McDuff. “This enables a profoundly more efficient administration of a rigorous process, both operationally and fiscally, while better serving the contracting industry.”

The BPCC Testing Center test services include high-stakes professional certification and licensure exams, information technology certifications, final exams that require completion of an industry-based certification, credit-by-examination, distance education proctoring, DANTES-funded testing, and national test services.

Tests are delivered at two locations – the Testing Center located on the BPCC campus at 6220 E. Texas St., Bossier City and the National Test Center located at Barksdale Air Force Base.

Current test services include Pearson VUE, Certiport, Castle Worldwide, College Board “CLEP”, NOCTI Business Solutions, Prometric “DSST”, Distance Education Proctoring, EC-Council, ETS Praxis, and Law School Admission Test. The BPCC Testing Center is a participant in the National College Testing Association Consortium of College Testing Centers.
