Bossier Parish, La — Bossier Parish Community College, Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Funeral Home, and The City of Bossier will sponsor the 2013 Louisiana Region I Science and Engineering Fair February 28-March 2, at the Bossier Civic Center, 620 Benton Road, Bossier City, LA.
The 2013 Region I Science and Engineering Fair marks the 39th year BPCC has served as host.
The Fair includes students in grades 4-12 from a 5-parish area: Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto, Red River, and Webster. More than 500 students compete annually and are judged by 135 professionals from throughout the area.
BPCC Science Professor and Fair Director Bob Boykin is always amazed at the talent shown at the Region I fair. “There are too many times when students names are associated with negative activities and this is a positive event showcasing students who would otherwise not get noticed..”
The Region I Fair begins Friday, March 1 with judging from 9:00am-11:30am and 12:30pm-3:00pm. Public visitation is from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Friday and from 8:30am-10:00am Saturday, March 2, with the awards ceremony scheduled from 10:00am-11:00am on Saturday.
With more than $3000 in cash and other awards, first place winners in Division B (middle school grades 6-8) and Division C (high school grades 9-12) qualify for the Louisiana State Science Fair in Baton Rouge March 25-27.
In addition to hosting the Region I Science & Engineering Fair, Bossier Parish Community College also sponsors 2-3 students each year for the International Science and Engineering Fair. The ISEF will be held May 11-17 in Phoenix, AZ. BPCC faculty members have also participated at ISEF as judges, advisory council and display and safety committee members.
