Burned woman released from hospital

In October, Winnsboro's Sharmeka Moffitt called police saying she had been set on fire by 3 men wearing hoodies. When police arrived, they found racial slurs written on her car and burns covering 60% of her body.

The event quickly went viral, with people weighing in from all over the country. But after investigating, Louisiana State Police found clues that made them think that the burning may not have happened the way Moffitt described.

They found her fingerprints on a lighter and lighter fluid that made them think she may have been behind the crime.

Now that Moffitt has been released from the hospital, and the investigation is done, they have turned the case over to the Franklin Parish DA, who will decide the next step.

The DA had previously said that charges were likely.
