Caddo Parish, LA (KMSS) — It was a packed range for the Caddo Sheriff Office's concealed carry licensing class. Many students were taking the class for the first time, but for some, it was a renewal course. That was the case for Floyd Wiggins of Haughton who was originally licensed 4 years ago.
Wiggins travels a lot to Arkansas, which has a reciprocal agreement with Louisiana, but no castle laws. That means that if Wiggins didn't have a concealed carry license, he could only travel with his firearm unloaded, and locked in the trunk.
Wiggins has never had to use his firearm, but he likes the security it offers him. He takes it everywhere unless guns aren't allowed inside the building.
Law enforcement didn't always support concealed carry permits, but now, at least in Caddo Parish, the do. That's because the permit lets law enforcement know that the license holder has passed a background check and also knows about handgun safety.
