Dog Park Alliance fundraising to help with costs
Shreveport, LA (KMSS) — Red Mango and Raising Canes on Youree Drive in Shreveport devoted today to the dogs; and the Shreveport Dog Park Alliance. The restaurants donated 20% and 15% respectively, of sales to the alliance.
Since filing a lawsuit against Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover in April, legal fees have been adding up as to two sides battle it out in court.
However, while the mayor has accrued almost $25,000 in fees, he is not forced to fundraise because he is not paying his legal bills; instead taxpayers are responsible.
In August, the City Council voted to continue paying Glover's court costs, leaving taxpayers to foot the bill. The Dog Park Alliance realizes this is a city matter, and they accept the decision, but others don't feel the same.
Many who weren't comfortable going on camera said they didn't think it was fair to pay for the mayor to fight something they support.
However, despite increasing costs, the Dog Park Alliance won't give up until their spokesdog Baxter and all his doggie friends can play, unleashed, at Hamel's Memorial Park on the riverfront.
