KMSS — Energy Camp Louisiana for incoming 10th, 11th and 12th grade students from Natchitoches, Red River and DeSoto parishes will take place on the Northwestern State University campus July 8-12 for science, technology, engineering and mathematics students. A Media Day will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, July 9 in Williamson Hall in which energy camp students as well as some event organizers will be available for interviews.
Energy Camp is designed teach high school students about different types of energy, energy conservation and efficiency and energy-related careers. During the camp, students will participate in hands-on experiments, energy discussions and interactive computer games and compete for prizes for best in class team efforts.
Participants will take part in workshops with career focus and experience field trips to International Paper in Campti and the Shell field office with presentations and tours of each facility.
Energy Camp Louisiana partners are the Consortium for Education, Research and Technology (CERT) of North Louisiana, Northwestern State, Bossier Parish Community College and Southern University at Shreveport. Support is also provided by the United Way of Northwest Louisiana, American Electric Power and CenterPoint Energy. The Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce, International Paper, Weyerhaeuser, the City of Natchitoches and the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office supported the Northwestern State session.
