Rodessa, La (KMSS) — Authorities arrested Monday a former church treasurer for allegedly stealing more than $31,000 from his employer.
Demario Thomas, 31, of Rodessa, turned himself into to Caddo Parish law enforcement after a warrant for his arrested was obtained. He is accused of taking $31,746 from the First Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
According to the Caddo Sheriff's Office, Thomas wrote 106 checks to himself between April 2010 and October 2012 while he served as the treasurer. He allegedly wrote signed his own name and forged another board members to meet the requirement of two signatures on the account. A large portion of the checks were cashed and deposited into Thomas' personal account.
Thomas was charged with fraud and later released Monday on bond.
